Upper is the new EP from the incredible Salvatore Mercatante.

Salvatore has a knack for the unexpected. His recent LP 'Post' on his own Noci Miste album delivers agile, glitch-laden IDM, and his previous EP 'The Pistachio Sessions' on Tom Ragsdale's Soundtracking The Void label was an uptempo rhythmic workout not too dissimilar to Analord-era AFX.

Upper brings us another element to Salvatore's work - downtempo chillout. Softer than Post, and more relaxed than Pistachio, the tracks that appear on Upper hit the mark in a much less frenetic way, but no less beguiling.

Upper gives us a taste of what is round the corner, with the 'SM Synthesis' LP scheduled for the summer.

"The Upper EP and subsequent SM Synthesis LP were born through an intimate connection - bridging the gap between what I knew and what I was looking to explore. A time connected to a(n internal) place. Rules, or lack thereof. All was written on 4 synthesizers and 1 drum machine (the exception being 402, which was added later). There is live performance, a lot of audio processing and multiple mistakes be it by myself or the equipment. This EP holds a softness unheard on SM Synthesis. Perhaps written on days that offered some respite?"
